| The controls are perhaps the most important
part of the cabinet. So I spent a lot of time checking out other
peoples examples and planing my control layout. Because I wanted
to play a bunch of games that used many different controls,
I decided that I wanted to have more than one control panel
that I could swap out very easily. I used Leaf style joysticks
from Wico.
They provided the best real arcade feel (and looked darn cool
too). The buttons are from Happs
and are their pushbuttons
with horizontal switches. |
| Panel 1 'streetfighter
style' |
| The first panel has 2 player start buttons,
2 8-way joysticks, 6 buttons per player, and a button each for
enter and escape. I can play most games that use a 8-way joystick
with this panel. |

| The second panel is a stargate/defender layout
with a 4-way joystick in the middle. It also has the player,
enter, and escape buttons. This panel will work for all 4-way
joystick games (most are alternating player) and stargate and
defender. |

| Panel 3 'missle command
style' |
| The third control panel is now complete. It
is a missile command type panel. I have a 3 inch trackball
I got from Happs
and a PC
interface kit that connects it to the PC. You also need
a power
supply for the interface. It has 3 buttons tied to the mouse
interface. Note that there are two connectors on this panel.
One is the connector to the encoder for standard buttons and
one is for the connection to the mouse interface for the trackball.
To see how this is connected check out the
mouse interface section. |
